Twelfth edition. Revised and enlarged with supplement. — Shanghai: China Inland Mission and Presbyterian Mission Press, 1921. — xxxviii, 282 p.
英華合璧上卷. Mandarin primer. Part 1.
Since the first edition of this book was printed in 1878, great changes have taken place in China. The old system of education has been discarded and Western standards have been adopted in its place. This has brought a large number of new expressions into existence and has made it necessary for foreigners who study Chinese to acquire a new and enlarged vocabulary. With a view to meet these fresh requirements the book has been re-written and the Lessons re-cast. Full details are given in the Introduction, to which the reader is referred.
