Wager J.F., Keszler D.A., Presley R.E. Transparent Electronics
New York: Springer. – 2008. – 216 p. This book is a monograph. Its defining theme is that transparent electronics development should be application-driven and, therefore, needs to be undertaken concurrently at the materials, process, device, circuit, and system levels. In support of this theme, background and overview information is provided in Chapters 1-2; applications are considered in Chapter 3; materials, devices, and circuits are explored in Chapters 4-6; and a preliminary roadmap for continued development is offered in Chapter seven. As we go to press with this monograph, two final thoughts occur. First, the world-wide interest in transparent electronics appears to be exploding. In Chapter 2, which was completed mid-December 2006, we attempted to at least reference, and usually briefly summarize, all of the available existent literature. Second, although it is our experience that transparent electronics readily captures the attention, imagination, and enthusiasm of an extremely wide spectrum of scientists, technologists, entrepreneurs, artists, designers, and lay-persons, it appears to us that most of the initial commercial implementations of transparent-electronics-derived technology will not involve the very attribute that perks people’s curiosity and interest, namely, transparency! This may be due, in part, to its novelty; people cannot yet get their mind wrapped around a practical implementation of the concept.
